Narcissism. n.

1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself.
2. Looking at oneself in the mirror and thinking "damn, I'd totally fuck me."
3. Drying oneself off in the men's changeroom at Killarney Community Centre while standing on the bench so you can fucking watch yourself in the mirror. Jesus christ, man, what is your major malfunction?

So, guess which one of those I've witnessed in the past week? Go ahead, I'll give you three guesses. It's ok, we'll wait.

Now I don't know about the rest of you guys out there, but that made me really fucking uncomfortable. I was washing my hands and face after our ultimate game on Monday and I look up in the mirror and BAM there's man jibblets getting tossed around by a towel. And the guy was watching himself do this in the mirror.

I should probably tell you right now before we go any further, because I don't want us to get all serious about this relationship only to have it fall apart over some small personal detail: there are certain things in life I can do without seeing. Some dude fondling himself by way of a towel is pretty high on that list. It's right up there next to a Janet Reno-Donald Rumsfeld fanfic and The Fantastic Four.

Things have been more or less plodding along here in Casa de Jeremy. Work has been quite slow recently, and somewhat frustrating because there was a rather enormous discrepancy between my count and HR's count of how much overtime I've banked. I had it at about a week and a half (this after using up a lot over the past few weeks). HR had it at less than three days. Jigga-what?? I spent a bit of time on Thursday and Friday trying to get it all sorted out, and I'm still not exactly sure how fixed it is. I went and talked to my boss about it, and being the super cool guy that he is, he sent HR an e-mail with my timecards attached saying "see, Jeremy actually worked this week that you show him taking entirely off." I hate rocking the company boat, but I'm trying to pick my battles and this is definitely one that needs to be picked. I'm not going to roll over on 40 hours worth of time that I actually worked. I'm not too keen on the idea of not getting a raise for being a first aid attendant, but I can live with it. It's a good thing to have, the company is paying for the course and the week off that I need to take it, and so I don't think it's in my best interest to really press the issue.

That said, our group is having a meeting with the president of the company next Tuesday, and I'm still waffling on whether or not I should bring it up. We are having a fair amount of trouble trying to get people to volunteer to be first aid attendants, and I think the fact that there isn't even a firm smack on the ass for compensation for what is a great deal of responsibility is a very big part of that. If someone is seriously injured, it could be up to me to take action that decides their fate. I'm having a hard time accepting the fact that the company is not willing to acknowledge that responsibility.

One of the problems with bringing it up with the president is that I'm really not good with confrontation. If there is any sort of argument, or even a discussion, I'll probably get all flustered and cave in because I don't want to rock the boat. I honestly don't know how far they could take it, but is my job worth trying to get a raise out of this course? Chances are, any injuries I'll need to deal with will be minor and not require anything more than pressure and bandaging. Chances are.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on how to proceed here?

Aside from work and the fun happenings there, everything else has been going fairly well. Our ultimate frisbee team got bumped up to Div 6 for the final trimester, which isn't as good as you might think, because it means we're going to start losing again (like we did last Monday). It wasn't a very fun game because of some bickering over calls and whatnot, so I wasn't really feeling the spirit. We only had the one game, too, so we couldn't try to ramp up the fun for the second match. We had a decent spirit game afterwards, where most people were smiling, which definitely helped. It's amazing how fun a little boys vs. girls rock-paper-scissors match can be.

Beach volleyball has started up again, this time on Wednesdays at Spanish Banks West. Wednesdays means that there's no cheap pasta night at Boston Pizza (though we've gone there too many times by many people's counts). Spanish Banks West means that we no longer get to play in nice sand. The stuff we were playing in was littered with rocks. It felt like we were playing in concrete mix. To make matters worse, it was very dusty, and there were sporadic pieces of wood and other undesirables. I found a few pieces of thick glass (not super sharp, but still, GLASS) and even a couple of very rough pieces of asphalt. I used to think the sand at East was kind hard underneath, but it's nothing compared to this stuff. It's hard all over. Fortunately the skin on the bottoms of my feet is relatively thick, but I was still sporting a few abrasions by the end of the day.

Dear Volleyball BC,

Please run a big fucking rake through those courts before someone slices themselves open something fierce. Thanks!

Jeremy

I should probably also just drop a quick note here to all of you sexy ladies out there: stop sending me naked pictures of yourself. I don't know if my ladyfriend would approve. I'm sure that my good friend Jerem...iah...wouldn't mind them, though. If you send them to me, I'll be sure to forward them along. Yup, sure will. Forward them right on. Yes, sir. Hit the old f-w-d button, hmm? Little bit of the pass-it-along, hmm? Fire off the cyber-space equivalent of a ricochet? Hmm?

Ok, I'm done.
